Mud Dog Saltwater Flies

THE new home for mud Dog saltwater flies

Chapters

I started Mud Dog Saltwater Flies in 2000.  I spent two years before launching the business working with friends who guide on putting together a small selection of saltwater flies that they fish everyday and figuring out how to build them to last. Many of those fly patterns are still on the menu. The fly menu has grown over the years but my initial concept of building flies born on the water, proven in the mud and built to last has never changed.

ln July of 2013 I hit the "publish" button on my blog, "Backwater Flats" for the first time. The stories come from time on and around the water. While the writing is based around fly fishing, there are no "how-to" articles or instructional videos. That information, like overpriced coffee, is available everywhere you turn. Or swipe. I'm no expert. I just fish. A lot. Backwater Flats is about the people, places and the water I encounter while I'm out there and the thoughts they inspire.

In March of 2019, my partner, Jill Mason and I started Sand Light And Water as a place to combine our creative pursuits. We built out our shed in the backyard as a workspace for artwork and as a refuge to frame the images and words of our experiences on the water. I encourage you to check out Jill's artwork and items for your home or gifting at  Jill Mason Art of our "field trips" at Sand Light And Water and Mud Dog logo gear in The Shed.
